On COVID rounds, my next patient is an experienced personal support worker who works at a long term care home.
She’s recovering from severe pneumonia.
We spoke of the many residents from the home that have died.
She started to cry.
“I knew them all so well. They were my parents”.
This is an eye opener! We often think that staff in LTC are impersonal, uncaring…a low paying job for immigrants, learning to speak the language . So, this piece was refreshing, reassuring.
